MEXT Scholarship in Yokohama National University of Japan 2022-2023

MEXT Scholarship in Yokohama National University of Japan 2022-2023 is open now. YNU has initiated the all-English graduate program at the doctor and master level in the field of civil engineering since 1989. The Japanese government (MEXT) scholarships have been collocated to the program as a priority, and at present, two MEXT scholarships for the master course and five MEXT scholarships for the doctor course are allocated every year for the “Civil and Development” program, and four MEXT scholarships for the doctor course are allocated every year for “Civil and ICT/IoT” program. So far, about 250 international students have successfully graduated from this program, and now nearly 50 international students are studying in this program (as of 2020). The program is rather research-oriented although coursework is necessary. Courses are offered in English, and all dissertation works including adviser’s guidance, progress report, writing, and presentation are done in English.

About Application

MEXT scholarships for the master’s course and the doctoral course are going to be allocated to the “Civil and Development” program and the “Civil and ICT/IoT” program. The candidates who wish to receive the MEXT scholarship allocated to these programs can only apply for October enrollment 2022.

Required Documents

 

The following documents also must be uploaded until the deadline, but do not need to be mailed.

1)Research Plan (within 5 pages, including the abstract)
Your research plan should be within 5 pages in an A4 size PDF/Word file.
Write an abstract in the first 1/3 portion of the first page.
Describe in detail and with specifics – particularly concerning the ultimate goal(s) of your research at YNU.
Your academic background and research methodology should be included.

2) Official transcript(s)
For the Doctoral Course, official transcripts showing the applicant’s academic performance from both an undergraduate and master’s course. For the Master Course, an official transcript showing the applicant’s academic performance from undergraduate courses.

3)Proof of an applicant’s English proficiency, an official score of TOEFL and IELTS or equivalent.
We accept official TOEFL scores sent directly by Educational Testing Service (ETS), or official IELTS scores sent directly by the British Council, those within 2 years from the start of the application.
If the applicants have completed a university program conducted mainly in English, upload a certificate of English proficiency sufficient to prove the fact that the medium of instruction has been English and that the applicants have successfully completed the program.

5)Names and contact information of recommenders
Names of two different people must be provided to support the application. We will later ask the two recommenders to provide a recommendation letter for the applicant electronically. For this purpose, the recommenders must use the official email addresses of the professional institutions they are affiliated with. We will not accept recommendation letters from private addresses such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail unless there is a compelling reason to do so.NOTE:
* The application period may be shortened due to an unpredictable situation.
